Charlie Over the Water
Equipment: volleyball or playground ball
Formation: Circle at first, then scattered
Description: Children form a circle in the middle of the gym or designated playing area outside. One student stands in the middle of the circle with the ball. Children skip around the circle chanting:
Charlie over the water,
Charlie over the sea,
Charlie caught a bluebird,
But he can't catch me!
On the word me the children drop hands and scatter throughout the playing area. When "Charlie" yells stop everyone must stop and not move at all. "Charlie" rolls the ball at someone and tries to hit them. If he/she hits them that person is then "Charlie" if not they are "Charlie" again.
